More trouble for Trump on Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky does not see a corruption component in his telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump asked Zelenskiy during the call to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden, and Congressional Democrats believe Trump was holding up the aid to use as leverage to pressure Ukraine.

Even before the call, security officials were concerned about the removal of the United States ambassador to Ukraine in May, and also about efforts by Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to spread conspiracies involving Ukraine and indications that Trump wanted Zelensky to offer up potentially damaging information about Biden, according to the newspaper. He said he did not violate Ukrainian law, adding that his comments of Trump's words could be construed as interference in USA domestic politics.

Mr Zelensky told reporters that Mr Trump did not seek to blackmail him during a phone call in July or a meeting in September.

"And after our meeting, America unblocked the aid".

A TV and film comedian, Zelenskiy overwhelmingly won the presidency in April on promises to fight corruption and end the five-year conflict with Moscow-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Sharks sign Marleau to one-year deal
Off to a rocky start, the Sharks are hoping the three-time All-Star will be able to suit up as early as this weekend. San Jose only has scored one goal per game through its first few contests and the power play is a dismal 0-for-14.

Ukraine's top prosecutor last week said his office would review several cases related to the owner of the gas company where Hunter Biden sat on the board, and Zelenskiy on Thursday invited USA and Ukrainian prosecutors to cooperate, but insisted he would not interfere.

After the record-setting media day - during which Mr. Zelensky took only 10-minute breaks between sessions with journalists - the Ukrainian President can now claim to have answered all the questions the world's media could throw at him (albeit in a format that ensured he'd be asked the same questions repeatedly, allowing him to give the same answers again and again).

The 41-year-old president reacted with surprise, saying he was a "modest" person and averse to celebrations. "I said that we are not corrupt [regarding the Burisma investigation], that we are open to investigating all cases, and we we'll do it according to the law".

He added that the call was about arranging a meeting with Trump. "I understand you and what you want - I clearly understand, directly".

"I told him. please help to resolve it", Zelenskiy recalls.
