Four men are dead and at least five others have been injured after a shooting outside a Brooklyn event space.

"We need new tools to combat the surge in gun violence we are seeing in certain precincts across the city, including the 77th", Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said in a statement.

Shea told journalists at a briefing there was evidence of gambling, specifically cards and dice, and that preliminary investigations indicated that a minimum of 15 shots were fired. He said at least 15 people were present and 15 shots were fired.

The victims, who have not been identified, ranged in age from 32 to 49, Shea said.

Two firearms were recovered and the police official said he "would not be shocked if we recovered more".

Four men were pronounced dead at the scene, while two other men and a woman suffered non-life threatening injuries, the police official said.

Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan Resigns
I want to thank the President for the opportunity to serve alongside the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security. He took over in April after Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen quit, and he was the fourth person to lead the department in two years.

No one was immediately charged in the shooting, but police were questioning survivors and reviewing security camera footage.

Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison said police have received no complaints in recent years about activity at the illegal spot.

Homicide detectives were on the scene, and Shea said nothing indicated that the crime was gang-related.

Police say the shooting occurred at 74 Utica Avenue, in the Weeksville neighborhood of Brooklyn and gave no additional information whether any suspects were arrested.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, said on Twitter that the city "awoke to senseless gun violence".

The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. Saturday. Four homeless men were beaten to death, allegedly by another homeless man, on October 5 in Manhattan's Chinatown.
