Abandoned SD Card Labelled 'Homicide' Provides Road Map to Real Murder

Almost a week prior, on September 30, someone called Anchorage Police claiming to have "an SD card containing a video of a homicide", according to a press release from authorities.

Henry's remains were found near a highway south of Anchorage on October 2.

Investigators told KTVA that they do not believe Smith had anyone help film the alleged crimes and said he is now the only suspect in the case.

Police said they arrested Brian Steven Smith, 48, on a murder charge Tuesday. It had 39 images and 12 videos that recorded the alleged crime.

"One of the first questions that detectives had to answer was, 'Was this staged, or did this really happen?'" says an official with the Anchorage Police Department. "When they were able to determine that this was an actual crime, then the investigation started to quickly speed up".

According to the National Institute of Justice, 56% of American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced physical violence by intimate partners in their lifetime.

Google Pixelbook Go leaked images surface online, reveal ribbed back and more
Other devices set to make their debut next week include a new Nest Mini, a new Nest Wifi, and maybe new Pixel Buds. Ahead of a Google event next week, the company's latest Chromebook, the Google Pixelbook Go, has been laid bare.

The videos show the woman being strangled, with a man's voice in one saying "just ... die", according to the document. The woman fought back, "attempting to scratch at the man's wrist with her right hand to get him to stop", authorities said.

The gruesome images showed the woman lying on a floor naked next to a bed with her left eye bruised and swollen shut, with red ligature marks on her neck, the complaint states. Later photos show her body on a luggage cart in the hotel's parking lot, wrapped in a white blanket, charging documents said. The final images, time-stamped in the early-morning hours of September 6, showed the woman's body facedown in the bed of a pickup truck.

He did not specify the nature of that separate investigation or Smith's role in it.

Authorities identified the man in the card media as Brian Steven Smith, who was familiar to police through another investigation.

Cellphone records trace Smith to having been at the place where the remains were found within minutes of when the last photo on the SD card was taken, police documents outline.

The memory card, she told police, was labeled "homicide", according to an affidavit of the criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE.
