UAW Strike: General Motors Reportedly Fed Up

GM appeals directly to UAW workers: 'The strike has been hard on you, your families ...'

General Motors Co took the unusual step of appealing directly to employees in a blog post on Friday that laid out the terms of the automaker's latest offer aimed at ending a month-long strike, angering the union with which it is negotiating.

Committees are working on issues such as products for factories that GM wants to close, investments in other US factories, and training for union workers to handle future technology, according to Dittes' letter.

Separately on Friday, union strikers are marking the day with two rallies at GM's Tech Center in Warren.

He wrote: "From the outset, General Motors has been committed to an agreement that is fair and worthy of our team members' support".

Frank Stuglin is a regional union director.

On Tuesday, the contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers and General motors froze as the union accused General Motors of not being committed enough to building their products in the United States.

Blizzard Is 'Assessing' How To Proceed Following Hong Kong Controversy
Chung addressed the controversy Tuesday in a livestream on a different service called Twitch, the New York Times reported. On Sunday, the general manager of the Houston Rockets NBA basketball team tweeted in support of the Hong Kong protests.

The message comes just one day after top GM and UAW negotiators met with GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra in Detroit, a meeting that apparently gave talks over a new four-year contract a shot of adrenaline that has been lacking.

Sandefur replied in a letter that GM had expected the union's proposal on Thursday.

Credit Suisse said the strike will hurt suppliers, including American Axle AXL.N , Aptiv Plc APTV.N , Lear Corp LEA.N , Delphi Technologies DLPH.N , and Dana Inc DAN.N , whose exposure to GM varies between 5% and 18%, with American Axle at 40%. In it, Dittes said the union would respond to the company's offer once various negotiating committees working on specific issues work out their differences.

GM shares closed up 1.5 per cent in Thursday trading. Meanwhile, direct wage losses for all employees have already surpassed $ 400 million and continues to climb. Labor experts say workers start at $1.90 an hour in GM's factories in Mexico.

A major sticking point for both parties has been GM's commitments for future production in the U.S. The automaker has made proposals to reactivate some idled U.S. plants to build electric vehicles, but those commitments have not gone far enough to satisfy union leadership. GM says it has found other jobs for 2,300 of the 3,000 workers who worked in those plants, but many had to relocate.

GM, however, contends that the ball is in the union's court, since they were the last ones to have made a formal offer, on Monday Oct. 7, according to a source close to the company.
