Chicken Processing Company Recalls Meat From Stores Over Listeria Concerns

Tip Top Poultry, who provides chicken for brands such as Butterball, Sysco, and Perdue, is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Stores affected include Kroger, ALDI, Food Lion, and Piggly Wiggly, among others.

The company issued a recall that includes many of its ready-to-eat chicken products made January 21 through September 24 of this year - including Nutrisystem diet meals and Trader Joe's chicken salad.

Following Tip Top's recall on September 28, other customers of Tip Top or customers of Tip Top's customers recalled products that included Tip Top chicken. Tip Top said it expanded the dates and the scope of the recall out of an abundance of caution.

UAW Strike: General Motors Reportedly Fed Up
GM says it has found other jobs for 2,300 of the 3,000 workers who worked in those plants, but many had to relocate. Meanwhile, direct wage losses for all employees have already surpassed $ 400 million and continues to climb.

This recall has now been extended to products that contained the possibly contaminated chicken including pre-made chicken sandwiches, wraps and salads.

The chicken may be contaminated by Listeria.

An updated list of affected retailers and product labels can be found at fsis.usda.gov. Their news release urges any consumer or institutions in possession of these products not to consume or serve them. It can cause muscle aches, headaches, fever, loss of balance, stiff, and diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems, according to the USDA.

It can also cause "miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn" in pregnant women, the news release read. It can develop into a serious infection, especially among older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
