Sharks sign Marleau to one-year deal

Sharks Prospect of the Week: Vladislav Kotkov

Though the Sharks could use any boost to their offense that they can get right now, he's probably not going to fill San Jose's scoring void upon his return.

After rumors that Patrick Marleau could return to the South Bay were ultimately shut down, the franchise's all-time goals and points leader is re-joining the Sharks, the team announced Tuesday afternoon ahead of their game against the Nashville Predators.

The 40-year-old forward got traded to Carolina Hurricanes from the Toronto Maple Leafs this off-season and subsequently bought out.

Two Huge Matches Announced For WWE Crown Jewel
When he won his first UFC championship against Lesnar in 2010, he told ESPN that he had already been in talks with WWE. With his signing, Velasquez joins the likes of Lesnar and Ronda Rousey as former UFC champions on the WWE roster.

Marleau's 1,657 career regular-season games played ranks fifth all-time and his 551 goals ranks 28th in National Hockey League history.

"We stay very committed to what we've started the year with, which is integrating all the young players into the organization". San Jose only has scored one goal per game through its first few contests and the power play is a dismal 0-for-14. That led to the move to add a veteran forward with a history of production in the National Hockey League.

Marleau's new contract is a homecoming for him; he was taken second overall by the Sharks in the 1997 NHL Draft and spent 67.8 percent of the franchise's existence with the team, seeing San Jose transform from an expansion franchise into a near-perennial playoff contender. He helped the team reach the conference final four times in his career and the Stanley Cup Final in 2016, but never won it all. "He's in unbelievable shape, every single year, both years he was in Toronto, he comes in flying". The team lost three forwards to free agency in the offseason: wingers Joonas Donskoi and Gustav Nyquist, and center Joe Pavelski, the team's captain who left a leadership void in the dressing room. Off to a rocky start, the Sharks are hoping the three-time All-Star will be able to suit up as early as this weekend.
