Fox News anchor Shepard Smith leaving the network

Longtime Fox News host Shepard Smith is leaving the network and stepping down from his role as chief news anchor and managing editor of the channel, the news network announced Friday. That journalism and journalists will thrive.

In a tweet, Fox News anchor Bret Baier described learning about his departure as "a total shock" and said Smith anchored breaking-news events "better than anyone".

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is leaving the network. "After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged", he said on-air.

"The opportunities afforded this guy from a small town in MS have been many", he added.

"While this day is especially hard as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his vast contributions to the entire network", Wallace said.

Smith was the face of Fox's news division which has recently found itself in a remarkable state of conflict with the network's opinion hosts and commentators. He joined Fox News in 1996. "While this day is especially hard as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his enormous contributions to the entire network".

Antonio Brown thinks the Patriots should bring him back
But that's not stopping the still-unemployed Pro Bowl receiver from calling upon his former employers to give him another chance. Brown was released the Friday before Week 3 after he allegedly sent "menacing" text messages to an accuser.

In March, Smith took issue with Trump's criticism of the late Republican Senator John McCain, and in August Smith spoke out about the "unmistakable rise of white nationalism and white racism in America" which Democrats say Trump has not done enough to discourage. "His powerful storytelling on both television and digital platforms has elevated our entire news gathering process".

Smith, 55, made the announcement live on the air and Fox sent out a press release. Later that night, Carlson asked his own analyst, Joseph diGenova, to comment and he called Napolitano a fool.

The next day, Smith said that "attacking our colleague who is here to offer legal assessments, on our air, in our work home, is repugnant".

Smith did not mention that incident in his sign-off Friday, saying only that it had been an honor to work for Fox News for 23 years and in journalism for 33 years total, noting "the opportunities afforded this guy from small-town Mississippi".

Melber pressed Cameron on the impact of Smith's departure on the network.
