Elizabeth Warren wins praise for zinger response to same-sex marriage question

HRC To Host Nearly 100 Watch Parties for Historic LGBTQ “Power of Our Pride” Presidential Town Hall
									By Lucas Acosta

"You're on the campaign trail and a supporter approaches you and says, 'Senator, I'm old-fashioned and my faith teaches me that marriage is between one man and one woman.' What's your response?"

"And I'm going to say, 'Then just marry one woman!'" the presidential contender said.

After a brief pause to allow for laughter and applause from the audience, Warren then delivered the perfectly timed follow-up, "Assuming you can find one".

Warren made the quip during an LGBTQ town hall event hosted by CNN on Thursday night.

The televised forum in Los Angeles became the second major presidential forum dedicated to LGBTQ issues during the Democratic nominating campaign, following an event in Iowa last month. But Warren is showing that conservatives don't have a monopoly on faith and that Christianity doesn't inherently equal an opposition to LGBTQ rights.

Cuomo was quickly roasted on social media over the gaffe. I think this is just a failure to understand how much trans and non-binary people struggle to have our authentic pronouns taken seriously. She says she does not remember having anti-gay views in her past, despite being enmeshed in a community where it wasn't yet safe to be openly LGBT. She said she saw that "as a matter of faith", and that the "hatefulness always really shocked me".

"They are yellow, black and white. Jesus loves all the children of the world, '" Warren addressed onstage after she was questioned about her own faith.

The legislation is supported by many other Democrats and was the subject of a similar announcement on LGBTQ2 rights by Pete Buttigieg, who also participated in the town hall. "And it truly is about the preciousness of each and every life".

She said she couldn't be sure what she thought as a kid, and acknowledged that different faiths see things differently.
