James Neal Pots Four Goals Against Islanders

Real Deal indeed! James Neal leads Edmonton Oilers past Islanders

The Edmonton Oilers forward buried four goals - including a natural hat trick - in the team's 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

The Oilers are now 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2008-09.

Neal finished off his big night at 6:51 of the third for his sixth of the season to make it 5-1.

The Islanders scored first when Anthony Beauvillier beat Oilers netminder Mikko Koskinen on a shorthanded breakaway. Semyon Varlamov, signed to a four-year deal in the off-season, made his second start of the season but was pulled in the second period after giving up four goals on 19 shots. Thomas Greiss came on and stopped seven of the eight shots he faced.

The former Flame has scored six goals early in the season, including a four-tally night on Tuesday that solidified his standing in the Oilers' history books.

The four-goal outburst was the first against the Islanders since Patrik Elias scored four times for the New Jersey Devils in 2003.

Matt Martin got one back for the Islanders. Edmonton held NY to just two more shots the rest of the period and finished the first with a 13-6 edge. After intercepting a Devon Toews pass along the boards behind the Islanders' net, Neal dished to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who briefly had the puck swiped from him by Beauvillier.

Neal would complete the natural hat trick 7:30 into the second period, finishing off a lovely "tic-tac-toe" passing play while on the power play.

Neal was on the other side of the net 6:31 into the second, when he took a pass from Leon Draisaitl and flicked it past Varlamov.
