Police arrest climate action protesters blocking Bloor Viaduct

We have tried petitions lobbying and marches and now time is running out. Extinction Rebellion protesters in Melbourne Australia

The protests began on Saturday when protesters occupied a shopping mall in Paris. Others are sitting down on the ground.

The group says its key demands for this protest are for the government to declare a climate and ecological emergency, halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2025 and to "create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens' Assembly on climate and ecological justice".

"Either we make history, or we're history", said Melanie Vautier, a university student who took part in the Wellington demonstrations.

The Metropolitan Police said a 24-hour plan for policing the demonstrations is in place.

Cities in Australia, elsewhere in Europe and other parts of the world also had climate change protests for a second day.

Dozens of protesters with the group waved flags and signs as they marched from a nearby transit terminal to the Macdonald Bridge toll plaza in Dartmouth, arriving around 7:35 a.m. Monday.

Police arrested demonstrators one by one, taking them to waiting police trucks and cars. They declared an emergency after the rebellion in April, and then we've seen like surprisingly little action.

Among those arrested was 81-year-old Sarah Lasenby, a retired social worker from Oxford.

Alex Trebek says cancer treatment may mean his retirement from 'Jeopardy!'
The Mayo Clinic says pancreatic cancer generally "spreads rapidly to nearby organs". So we're back on the chemo and we'll see if the numbers go down.

When asked about the protest, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said blocking civil servants off from their work would not take climate action "any further".

Meanwhile, Extinction Rebellion ringleader Eric "Serge" Herbert avoided a conviction in courts after allegedly being caught protesting in Brisbane's CBD yesterday, breaching his bail conditions. Police said 33 activists were taken to their premises and three were arrested for resisting orders by anti-riot officers.

The group wants Carbon dioxide emissions in the Netherlands to be reduced to zero within five years, instead of the government's goal of a 49 percent reduction compared to 1990 by 2030 and a 100 percent reduction within 30 years.

The protests are part of an worldwide campaign coordinated by Extinction Rebellion, an activist group that rose to prominence in April when it disrupted traffic in central London for 11 days.

In Amsterdam, hundreds of demonstrators blocked a major road outside the Rijksmuseum, one of the city's most popular tourist draws, and set up tents.

The group's protesters have succeeded before in disrupting life in London in hopes of gaining attention to their cause.

Grief-stricken Sally had her access to her late mother's home blocked by climate protesters.
