Huge Typhoon Could Threaten Ireland’s Chances Of Reaching Quarter-Finals

Japan's Meteorological Agency (JMA) is tracking Typhoon Hagibis, expected to develop into the highest level of "violent", which is due to start hitting the southern island of Kyushu around October 12.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Hagibis is now classed as "violent", with gusts as strong as 270km/hr.

Were Ireland's game against Samoa to be cancelled and Scotland beats Russian Federation and Japan in its final two pool games - picking up a four-try bonus point in one of those games - then Ireland, the world's top-ranked team ahead of the tournament, would go out.

Hagibis was yesterday tracking to hit the city, which is located on the southern island of Kyushu.

They informed France and the United States of their "contingency options" for their Pool C match in Fukuoka last Wednesday if the game was affected by Typhoon Mitag, which ultimately passed by Japan.

The new path is a significant change from Monday's forecast.

Hagibis - dubbed the "strongest storm on the planet" by the Weather Network - could also continue its easterly track and miss Japan altogether. It is forecast to weaken before it makes landfall, but the Japan Meteorological Agency still expects it to be "very strong".

Hagibis is now classed as "violent" - the JMA's highest classification, with gusts as strong as 270 kilometres per hour.

Ireland will roll out all their big guns for Saturday's Pool A decider against the Samoans in Fukuoka, with quarter-final qualification on the line.

Climate change protests snarl up central London, 135 arrested
Extinction Rebellion's Toronto chapter shuts down the Bloor Street Viaduct bridge in a climate change demonstration on Monday. In Paris , 1,000 activists backed by the yellow-vest anti-government movement have reportedly occupied a shopping centre.

"With Shaun Edwards (Wales defence coach) we do a lot of work on our general line speed", explained Davies.

However, with the storm shifting east, there is now a massive threat for two other huge games in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo.

"This was always going to be a big game for us and some of the individuals they have got are outstanding.", said Davies.

Organisers warned later Tuesday that it "remains too early to fully predict the movement and impact of the storm".

World Rugby released a statement on Monday evening warning that Typhoon Hagibis was set to bring high winds and heavy rain to southern parts of Japan on Saturday and Sunday, which could force a number of important matches to be moved or cancelled completely.

In the case of the England-France game, this would send Eddie Jones's side through as Pool C champions and a quarter-final meeting likely against old rivals Australia.

Wales' Sunday match against Uruguay, who the United Kingdom side are expected to beat with a bonus point, may be cancelled or moved due to the storm. Japan upset the Springboks in their opening game, won three matches, but defeat to Scotland saw them fail to qualify.

But cancellation would be a disaster for the Scots, who would be unable to progress assuming Ireland beat Samoa, as expected, the day before.
