Four people were injured Saturday night at a California Oktoberfest celebration

Firefighters had been initially referred to as to the scene for a reported electrical hearth within the underground vault.

Today the Oktoberfest turned into a risky place when a series of three explosions rocked the German celebration in Huntington Beach.

"Electrical fires, vault explosions - a lot of energy potential, a lot of heat", Lopez said.

Huntington Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Lopez said it was fortunate the injuries were not more serious, given the force and heat of the explosion.

2 firefighters have also been injured and the scene is still considered active.

The Huntington Beach Fire Department received news of the explosion at 7561 Center Ave.at 8:10 p.m., a dispatcher said. Two firefighters and two restaurant employees suffered minor injuries.

"It was just like one giant fireball that went up", the guest told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

At the time of the first explosion, restaurant staff had blocked off the area around the vault because of a unusual odor, Lopez said. As many as 1,700 prospects misplaced electrical energy, he stated.

Witnesses say the lights started to flicker and the power went out before up to three explosions only about a minute apart rocked the restaurant.

Southern California Edison crews labored via the night time to switch three broken transformers within the vault and restore energy, spokesman Robert Villegas stated. The complex had been hosting the Old World Oktoberfest festival, according to the Associated Press.

The Orange County Register reports multiple ambulances were on scene and at least one injured person was taken out of a building at the venue.
