Seinfeld is heading to Netflix in 2021

"Seinfeld" is coming to Netflix.

While the exact price tag was not disclosed, Netflix is said to have paid "far more" than the $500 million that NBCUniversal paid for "The Office" and the $425 million that WarnerMedia shelled out for "Friends", the Los Angeles Times said, citing anonymous sources.

Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Television, the distributor of the show, now has a deal with Walt Disney's Hulu. That five-year deal expires in 2021, which is when Netflix's own five-year deal will begin. Meanwhile, WarnerMedia will become the exclusive streaming home to Friends upon the launch of HBO Max. "Now, 30 years after its premiere, "Seinfeld' remains center stage".

Oil prices surge, stock futures slip after attack on Saudi facility
Saudi Aramco describes its Abqaiq oil processing facility in Buqyaq as "the largest crude oil stabilization plant in the world". Aramco gave no timeline for output resumption but said early Sunday it would give a progress update in around 48 hours.

The streaming giant has locked down the global streaming rights to Seinfeld for five years, giving Netflix a win after it suffered some notable losses to competing streaming services. "We're thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to bring this beloved series to current fans and new audiences around the globe".

"Seinfeld is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against", Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, said in a statement. Netflix will start streaming the show in the United States and around the world in 2021 after topping bids from Hulu, Amazon, WarnerMedia, NBCUniversal, and Viacom. When it comes to Netflix, the series will be available in 4K, which is a first for the series.

The deal struck with Sony Pictures Television, which controls the distribution of "Seinfeld, " will be announced Monday, according to the companies.

So while there are still plenty of reasons to think that Disney+ is a serious threat to streaming's dominant company, moves like this show that Netflix isn't going down without a fight.
