Quebec's religious symbols ban is Trudeau's campaign cross to bear

Trudeau

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks during a news conference at Rideau Hall after asking Governor General Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament, and mark the start of a federal election campaign in Canada, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, September 11, 2019.

Justin Trudeau began his bid for re-election Wednesday by framing the next 40 days as a time for Canadians to make a choice: whether they want more of his sunny ways or a return to the gloomier days he says are characteristic of life under a Conservative government.

Mr Trudeau is seeking a second term in office after winning a majority government in the 2015 Canadian general election.

"I have been watching very closely the process, considering the federal potential actions, and at this time I feel it would be counterproductive for the federal government to engage in this process". So I think Quebecers have the right to know.

The Liberal Party of Canada is now in fierce competition with the Conservative Party of Canada.

Trudeau has declined to appear, leaving Scheer to face off against Green leader Elizabeth May and the NDP's Jagmeet Singh.

The Liberals say the changes would help ease affordability concerns that affect first-time home buyers.

Trudeau's government also spearheaded the largest military procurement in Canadian history to replace aging military equipment.

Scheer said the focus on Willson shows the Liberals are "desperate to change the channel on their scandals and corruption".

US Supreme Court backs Trump on asylum crackdown
The policy overturns long-standing convention that the USA hears asylum claims however people have arrived at the border. Administration officials have maintained that the rule would help curb what they call "forum shopping" by migrants.

Trudeau is being hammered as much from the left for being too equivocal on the environment as much as he is being battered from the business right for being too aggressive on environmental issues.

The Tories held the riding briefly from 2011-2015 and are trying to win it again with candidate Rachel Willson.

'We've had some challenges but are ready to solve that and we will absolutely have candidates in every riding, ' Singh said.

Now, we have to ask the following question: If the Liberals are willing to so blatantly block an investigation, what are they so afraid of Canadians finding out?

Trudeau kicked both former ministers Wilson-Raybould (pictured here) and Philpott out of the Liberal caucus after they lost confidence in the Prime Minister and his cabinet's handling of the SNC-Lavalin criminal case. Party officials said the travel schedule would not be affected.

Andrew Scheer was elected leader of the country's other main political party, the center-right Conservative Party.

In that scenario, either Trudeau or Scheer would have to rely on at least one opposition party to pass legislation.

At the dissolution of Parliament, the Liberals hold 177 seats, the Conservatives 95, the NDP 39, the Bloc 10 and the Greens 2.
