Google Earth Images Lead to Remains of Florida Man Missing Since 1997

The body has now been confirmed to be William Earl Moldt, who was reported missing on 8 November, 1997, after he failed to return from a night out in Lantana, Florida, when he was 40 years old.

Submerged in the corner of a retention pond in Wellington, Florida, rested a vehicle that was heavily calcified and clearly had been in the water for a long time.

A man who disappeared 22 years ago has finally been found after somebody zoomed in on his old neighbourhood on Google Earth and spotted a vehicle submerged in a lake.

It's still not clear exactly how the auto ended up in the pond or how long it was in there.

A property surveyor looking at Google Earth spotted the vehicle on August 28 this year.

The grainy image from Google Earth shows a auto resting on its side at a ledge where the pond comes to an end between rows of residences near the 3700 block of Moon Bay Circle. It was removed from the water, and a week later, skeletal remains found in the vehicle were positively identified as Moldt.

Barry Fay, whose house the auto was behind, told the Sun Sentinel that his neighbour's ex-husband saw the submerged vehicle on Google Earth. The former resident told a current resident, who flew a drone above the site and immediately called authorities when he confirmed that the vehicle was there.

Former Oregon State cornerback Terrell Roberts killed in Bay Area shooting
Investigators determined the shooting happened in the garage following a disturbance between Roberts and the suspect. The Roberts family told a San Francisco television station that Roberts had not been "mixed up in anything bad".

Someone who lives in the neighborhood used a personal drone to take a closer look.

The subdivision was under construction when Moldt went missing, but the pond was already there.

"I called the former owner of my house and asked if she knew about this", Fay said.

Upon hauling it out the water, the remains were discovered and handed to the medical examiner's office to process them and get an identity.

Days later, the remains tested positively as having belonged to Moldt.

The man called the Sheriff's office on August 28, and deputies later arrived to find the white sedan's exterior "heavily calcified".

"All we know is that he went missing off the face of the Earth, and now he's been discovered". He did not appear to be intoxicated when he left, though he reportedly had several drinks at the bar.
