About 2,500 people are feared missing in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, raising concerns the death toll may significantly rise beyond the 50 reported so far.

Thousands of homes were severely damaged or destroyed and parts of the Bahamas received up to 35in (89cm) of rain, leaving vast areas flooded.

He said the Bahamas would hold a national day of prayer, and named hurricane response coordinators for the two most-affected islands.
