Bianca Andreescu Snatches Historic Victory From Serena Williams, Wins 1st Grand Slam

In 2018, she lost the Wimbledon final to Angelique Kerber before a controversial US Open final defeat by Naomi Osaka, and was beaten in this year's final at the All England Club by Simona Halep.

It wasn't the first time Andreescu had thought about playing the 37-year-old in a Grand Slam final.

"I'm just so proud that I'm out here and competing at this level".

Chances are, she'll do fine in the future.

Bianca Andreescu insists she is "not done yet" after spending years visualising the moment she would win the US Open, even writing herself fake winners' cheques.

Just ask Williams' coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who referred to Andreescu as a "future No. 1".

Andreescu apologised to the home crowd for beating the home favourite, saying: "I know you guys wanted Serena to win". Since her return, she has tried unsuccessfully four times to match the record for most Grand Slam wins.

Truth is, it's never a surprise when she wins.

"I guess these visualizations really, really work", she added with a laugh.

"She said afterwards she doesn't know what happens and the real Serena doesn't show up in the finals and that's what she's got to find the answer to".

China calls for continuation of Afghan peace talks
Trump said that the United States has been a policeman there for a long time and "we'd like to get out but we'll get out at the right time".

"I think your biggest weapon is to be as prepared as you can". That total is a record in the Open era, which began in 1968, when professionals were first allowed to play in Grand Slam tournaments.

Meanwhile, Williams admitted her frustration after losing back-to-back finals on Arthur Ashe but insisted she is not completely fixated on Margaret Court's elusive record of 24 major titles.

French-language newspaper Le Journal De Montreal crowned Andreescu the new queen with its "La Nouvelle Reine" headline, which featured a full-page photo of her on court kissing the US Open trophy. The teenager was elated with joy and was in sheer disbelief much similar to her senior counterpart who did not expect such a shocker.

"Like I said after I won the Orange Bowl (in 2015), a couple months after, I really believed that I could be at this stage".

Last month, Williams was defeated by Andreescu, 19, during the 2019 Rogers Cup finals when the veteran player was forced to retire due to back spasms.

Williams' only flicker of an opening in the match - a 23-minute stretch between Andreescu's first and second championship points - saw the crowd get involved, backing the American star.

"We The North" - the Raptors' slogan - has given way to "She The North".

"Bianca played an unbelievable match".

Andreescu maintained after that match that the racket toss was unintentional, and said she thought she did well keeping her cool with the rowdy NY fans actively cheering against her.
