US Accuses Iran Of 'Possible Undeclared Nuclear Activities'

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that Iran is trying to deceive the world by refusing to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The IAEA also confirmed that Iran is installing centrifuges prepared for testing with uranium hexafluoride, or UF6, the feedstock for centrifuges.

The remarks came just 90 minutes after Trump announced he had removed John Bolton as his national security advisor.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration announced new terrorist designations against leaders or operatives of organizations with close ties to Tehran, among them Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and Hezbollah.

Even as the removal of national security hardliner John Bolton triggered speculation that Trump might soften his approach to Iran, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joined Israel in alleging "possible undeclared nuclear activities" by Tehran, and the U.S. administration imposed new terrorist designations on leaders of some groups linked to the Islamic republic.

An Iranian expert said that any signal from the Iranian side for talks with the United States under the current circumstances would show disadvantage toward Iran.

Netanyahu added that he was "sure that Trump will take a much more open-eyed and a tougher stance against Iran", a thinly-veiled swipe at Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, whose administration was involved in negotiating the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

NOAA updated its hurricane outlook in August and said an above-average season in terms of the number of storms appeared likely. Dorian's storm system is tracking more than 280 kilometres off Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula into the North Atlantic.

The announcement of new sanctions comes one day before the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on NY and Washington, which were carried out by Al-Qaeda. The U.S. and Israel say Iran's responses raise new questions about its nuclear intentions. In a statement issued on Monday, he stressed that the regime's nuclear activities remain a cause for serious concern.

"The world won't fall for it", Pompeo said.

The nuclear accord was signed between Iran and six world states - namely the US, Germany, France, Britain, Russia and China - in 2015.

The comments were prompted by a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on Monday at which the agency's Acting Director General Cornel Feruta said he had told Iranian officials of the importance of "full and timely" cooperation with it on a visit to Tehran. On the one hand, he said that "this is not the time to hold talks with Iran; this is the time to increase the pressure on Iran".

Iran has said it will negotiate only if Washington lifts the sanctions.

Last Thursday, Netanyahu delivered a similar message.
