Riding on services, Apple set to reinvent the iPhone

Apple Inc. revealed on Tuesday that its streaming TV service will kick off November 1 and cost $5.99 a month in Canada, as the tech giant reaches a turning point where it focuses as much on services as its hardware and software. The subscription will only cost $4.99 per month for a family subscription, and a free one-month trail will be available. Those who purchase an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod Touch, or Mac will get a free year of the service.

Apple Arcade features a library of over a hundred games from popular and indie developers, which aren't available on any other mobile platform or subscription service.

On Tuesday at its big event in Cupertino, Calif., Apple gave some answers.

With services, Apple generated all-time record revenue of $11.5 billion - 13 per cent growth (year-over-year).

The Apple Arcade users will be privy to new games every month, personalized editorial content like game guides and sneak peek into new exciting games.

Apple TV Plus has marked November 1 as the Canadian launch date for a selection of celebrity-stacked TV shows, movies and documentaries, kicking off what's expected to be a heated battle for subscribers.

Viewers can watch trailers and add Apple TV+ series and movies to Up Next on the Apple TV app, so they can be notified when the first episodes become available.

Apple is also introducing a new Apple Research app that lets users sign up for studies and a Compass app for gauging location.

At its event, Apple (AAPL) unveiled the platform's pricing, along with new devices and a show that would feature Jason Momoa, the star of "Aquaman" and "Game of Thrones".

The global revenues from streaming video services will reach $159 billion in 2024 - more than double the figure of $68 billion in 2018.

The company delivered strong growth from digital content and services that include its Apple Pay and Apple Music, along with wearables and accessories like the Apple Watch and Air Pods.

Apple is finally ready to enter the streaming wars, and its new service will cost about half as much as we thought. It'll now read messages to AirPod wearers too, with support for both Apple's new WhatsApp-like Messages app and third-party services such as WhatsApp and Messenger.
