Netanyahu accuses Iran of destroying secret 'nuclear site'

Netanyahu made more claims about Iran's nuclear activity a few months later, alleging that the country was operating a "secret atomic warehouse" in Turquzubad, Tehran Province, that contained up to 300 tons of "nuclear-related material".

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a secret site used by Iran to conduct "experiments to develop nuclear weapons" was wiped off the map to cover up Teheran's attempts to acquire a nuclear bomb in violation of global treaties.

He did not address what the Iranian site was or why it appeared to have been demolished.

He called on world leaders to "wake up and realize that Iran is...systematically lying" and to join US President Donald Trump in imposing sanctions on Tehran, which is continuing its drive to obtain nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

"I call on the worldwide community to join President Trump's sanctions to exert more pressure on Iran", Netanyahu said in a statement following the disclosure.

"I call on the worldwide community to wake up, to realise that Iran is systematically lying", Netanyahu said.

Last year, Netanyahu made a splash with a showy press conference - during which he stood in front of a bookcase filled with the allegedly top-secret Iranian files - and claimed the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal was "based on lies." .

U.S. reportedly extracted spy from Moscow over fear of Trump spilling beans
Kommersant published a picture of a house in Virginia which it said had been bought by a man named Smolenkov in 2018. Asked to confirm whether Smolenkov was a Central Intelligence Agency agent, Peskov responded negatively.

Israel appears concerned that the worldwide community may reduce pressure on Iran after US President Donald Trump suggested possible talks with the country. Earlier Monday, Israel said that Iranian-backed Shiite militants in Syria failed in an attempt to fire rockets into Israel, while the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah said it shot down an Israeli drone in Lebanese airspace. USA intelligence officials similarly have made the same conclusion.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted on Twitter a 2002 video of Mr Netanyahu speaking about what he saw as the "positive reverberations" that would come with the overthrow of the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

The IAEA said Iran was starting to follow through on its pledge last week to further breach the landmark 2015 accord, this time installing more advanced centrifuges and moving towards enriching uranium with them, which the deal bans.

The US left the agreement a year ago, putting sanctions back in place.

Netanyahu has tried to keep the campaign focused on issues of national security, considered one of his strengths, and away from a looming corruption case against him. When Iran realised that we uncovered the internet site, this is what they did: "They wrecked the internet site, they just wiped it out".

"Netanyahu is again using intelligence information for his election propaganda", Yair Lapid of the centrist Blue and White alliance said on Twitter. However, there's been no major development at the site.
