Atlanta Falcons and Julio Jones agree to massive extension

Julio Jones and Steven Terrell

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones signed a three-year, $66 million contract extension that locks him with the team through the 2023 season, with $64 million due upfront. The 97 percent guaranteed-money figure is the highest amount by far for a non-quarterback, surpassing the deal signed by Lions defensive end Trey Flowers this March (74% guaranteed).

Jones' contract extension adds three seasons and $66 million to his current deal, ESPN reported.

Although he wasn't scheduled to become a free agent for three more seasons, Jones skipped the Falcons' entire offseason program past year, and it wasn't until the eve of training camp that Atlanta was sure he would be there.

Heading into his ninth National Football League season, he has 698 receptions for 10,731 yards and 51 touchdowns in 111 career games.

New book uncovers fresh Harvey Weinstein revelations
Much of the discussion shifted to Paltrow, who had her own confrontation with Weinstein that involved then-boyfriend Brad Pitt. Weinstein's lawyer, Donna Rotunno, said those allegations and others in the book are false.

With his new deal all but sorted out, he is now set to suit up for their Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. "Julio has been a cornerstone of our organization for several years and we have always intended for that to continue for years to come".

Besides his six Pro Bowl nominations, Jones has also been named an All-Pro four times in his career. "Just so consistent. His production is through the roof".

His most recent receiving title came a year ago when he had 113 catches for 1,677 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jones' extension follows a five-year, $150 million extension signed by Ryan last year. He's a great friend. When Julio addressed the Atlanta media Thursday after practice, he stated he would try his best to play and then finally said they should expect to see him take the field even if a deal was not done.
