UK Parliament takes on pivotal day on Brexit

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hope to defeat rebels today

On a day of high drama and acerbic debate in the House of Commons, lawmakers returned from their summer recess to confront Johnson over his insistence that the United Kingdom leave the European Union on October 31, even without a withdrawal agreement to cushion the economic blow.

She is part of the so-called "Guakeward squad" of Conservative MPs who want to stop no deal and among the handful of Tories who publicly back the People's Vote campaign for a second referendum.

A snap election is simply when a general election is called earlier than expected.

In the parliamentary chess game, the default position is that Britain will leave on October 31 without a deal unless a divorce agreement is struck with the bloc and ratified by the British parliament or legislation is passed to delay or revoke the departure notice.

That said, political uncertainty and a general election will likely push sterling down.

Johnson's opponents are planning to introduce the bill in Parliament on Tuesday during an emergency Brexit debate.

The former education and global development secretary said that she does not believe the Tories will offer a "sensible choice" at the next election and that her fears that the party is morphing into the Brexit Party have "come to pass".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called a meeting of his Cabinet on Monday to weigh a response to the possibility that lawmakers will introduce a measure in House of Commons to block a no-deal Brexit.

The leader of the Brexit Party Nigel Farage said he did not trust Prime Minister Boris Johnson to take Britain out of the European Union without a deal and so would struggle to strike an electoral pact with him.

Chivas to earn windfall as Chicharito is sold to Sevilla
He has not been involved in West Ham's last two league games, with talk of a move to Sevilla gathering pace. "The striker has signed a three-year contract".

Corbyn offered few details Monday on how exactly Parliament might approach the legislation created to stop departure from the European Union without a deal. "We are working with other parties to do everything necessary to pull our country back from the brink". But Johnson insists the potential for leaving without a deal must remain as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the EU. Johnson's supporters said lawmakers were weakening the government's negotiating position with the EU.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman confirmed that if there was to be an election it would be held before the European Council summit of EU leaders on October 17.

Twelve Conservative members of parliament, dubbed "rebels" in the British press, are reportedly ready to vote against Johnson, who last week suspended parliament until October 14.

"That's certainly what I have sought to do and I will do that today in making sure we pass this bill hopefully through parliament on Wednesday".

ITV news reporter Shebab Khan, who was at Whitehall, wrote: "Volume of the chants doubled as Boris Johnson stepped out".

Time is short before the October 31 withdrawal deadline.

Amid loud cries from protesters on the streets surrounding the House of Commons, lawmakers returned from their summer recess with a key piece of legislation on their agenda that would prevent an immediate no-deal exit. Economists warn that trade would be disrupted by tariffs and customs checks between Britain and the bloc.

The poll would take place on October 14, to allow a new government to be in place before Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union on October 31.
