More China Tariffs Go into Effect

China lodges WTO trade complaint against US

U.S. and Chinese officials are having difficulty scheduling a time to meet after Washington rebuffed Beijing's demands to hold off on imposing the weekend's latest round of tariff increases, according to Bloomberg.

"We don't want to be servants to the Chinese!"

Over the weekend, a new round of tariffs went into effect on goods from both countries.

The tariffs imposed by the United States severely violated the consensus reached by the two heads of state in Osaka, a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce said, adding that China is extremely dissatisfied with and resolutely opposes the tariffs.

He also wants China to stop bullying American companies and theft of U.S. intellectual properties.

With the latest round of tariffs in mind - and with additional duties expected to kick in as soon as October - business leaders and trade groups in recent days have been considerably more outspoken in their opposition to tariffs and in voicing their concerns that consumers may end up bearing the brunt of the trade dispute.

Walmart changes gun policies after shootings
Walmart said Tuesday it will stop selling handguns and some types of ammunition in its US stores following recent mass shootings . Those moves were prompted by the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people.

But at the recent G-7 meeting in France, Trump spoke of new communications between USA and Chinese negotiators - giving financial markets a brief boost - while China's foreign ministry said it was unaware of such contacts. -China relations and the Chinese government may have decided the effects of the trade war are manageable. "16 months PLUS is a long time to be haemorrhaging jobs and companies".

Trump said in his tweet that the U.S.is "doing very well in our negotiations with China", without offering any specifics. On Friday he lashed out at American businesses for complaining about the rising cost of the import taxes he has now placed on some $360 billion of Chinese imports, accusing them of bad corporate management.

The United States imposed a 15% tariff on $125 billion of Chinese imports including footwear, smart watches and flat-panel televisions on September 1. While the Chinese did not disclose details about its legal case at the WTO, officials have stated that tariffs by the U.S had impacted Chinese exports worth approximately $300 billion.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Trump warned China against playing out the clock to negotiate with a new administration.

Geng Shuang, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry, told a briefing in Beijing on Monday that "the most important thing at present is to create the necessary conditions for continuing the trade talks between China and the United States".
