Brexit: Protests in Cardiff over Parliament shutdown

EU No deal Brexit 'very distinct' possibility

Late on Monday, prime minister Johnson didn't explicitly call for another election but didn't rule it out too.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now demanding rebels on his own party to support him on the issue.

Barring an October 2016 "flash crash" when sterling momentarily tanked as low as $1.15, the United Kingdom currency has not regularly traded at these levels since 1985.

As protesters on the streets outside Parliament denounced a "coup", the lawmakers turned to a key piece of legislation that would prevent an immediate no-deal Brexit.

British lawmakers on Tuesday triggered a vote that could allow them to stop Boris Johnson pursuing a "no-deal" Brexit, a challenge that the government warned would prompt the prime minister to seek an election on October 14.

An early election could give Johnson a majority, although it is also a big risk, as the political landscape was deeply fragmented by the 2016 referendum.

MP Phillip Lee dramatically switched parties while Johnson spoke to Parliament on Tuesday, walking from the section of the room where Conservatives sit to those where Liberal Democrats sit, according to the Washington Post.

Mr Johnson took office less than six weeks ago, after his predecessor Theresa May was forced out over her failure to get her Brexit divorce deal through parliament.

The Conservative rebels who now face expulsion from the party included Nicholas Soames, the grandson of Britain's World War II leader Winston Churchill, and two former finance ministers - Philip Hammond and Kenneth Clarke.

Ashes 2019: Jack Leach's box is now Ben Stokes' lucky charm
I will only take real satisfaction from the innings if we win back the Ashes '. If they draw the series they still get to retain the Ashes .

It is another blow to Mr Johnson as he attempts to stop Parliament from passing an emergency debate order to prevent a no-deal Brexit.

"Sadly, the Brexit process has helped to transform this once great Party in to something more akin to a narrow faction, where an individual's "conservativism" is measured by how recklessly one wishes to leave the European Union", Lee said in a statement released on Twitter.

That was its lowest level since a "flash crash" in October 2016, when uncertainty after the Brexit referendum was particularly high. Economists warn that trade would be disrupted by tariffs and customs checks between Britain and the bloc. Leaked government documents predicted disruptions to the supply of drugs and medicine, a decrease in the availability of fresh food and even potential fresh water shortages because of disruption to supplies of water treatment chemicals. "We are negotiating a deal and I am confident of getting a deal".

From the start, he faced opposition from his own MPs who fear his threat of leaving the European Union without an agreement with Brussels risks severe economic disruption.

It would appear to back up the assessment made by Dominic Cummings, the PM's top strategist, who reportedly described the UK-EU negotiations as "a sham,"according to the Telegraph".

Britain is now scheduled to leave the European Union on October 31, whether or not it has agreed a divorce deal with Brussels. "But the lingering doubt they've got is: Will the shenanigans in Parliament somehow lead to the cancellation or the delay of Brexit?"

"I believe we will get a deal at that crucial summit in October".

In comments reported by The Guardian, he said: 'What's very clear to me is if we have an election before we have left the European Union, and the Brexit Party think that we are heading in a direction which does not deliver our independence from the EU, then they will stand candidates virtually everywhere.
