Alabama sheriff: 14-year-old confesses to killing five family members

There is no indication yet on any motive nor how he obtained the weapon used, a 9mm handgun.

The teen, who also has not been identified, was helping investigators Tuesday morning to find the gun, which he said was a 9 mm handgun he "tossed nearby", according to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office.

Officers found five people shot, including an adult and two children who were dead at the scene.

Alabama police say a 14-year-old boy fatally shot his entire family in the early hours of Tuesday and then called police to the scene. Officials say one adult and a child survived but died at area hospitals overnight.

Deputies Sheriff Mike Blakely says the teen confessed to killing his father, stepmother and siblings.

"It's an absolutely bad thing, and I can't wrap my arms around it", Elkmont Mayor Tracy Compton told The News Courier.

LCSO spokesman Stephen Young said the shooter attended Elkmont High School.

Elkmont is a small town northwest of Huntsville, near the Alabama-Tennessee line.

"Please be in prayer for our school and community". Just before 6 a.m., the school posted to Facebook stating extra counselors would be at the school Tuesday.
