Speaker of New Zealand's parliament cradles colleague's baby during debate

New Zealand Speaker Feeds MP's Baby In Parliament

As New Zealand lawmakers continued to debate fuel prices this week, the Parliament was treated to a rare sight on Wednesday.

Coffey, the Labour MP for Waiariki, and his partner Tim Smith welcomed Tūtānekai Smith-Coffey, born by surrogate, in July.

Speaker Mr Mallard commented: 'Normally the Speaker's chair is only used by Presiding Officers but today a VIP took the chair with me.

That is not the way of Trevor Mallard, a New Zealand MP.

Tāmati Coffey brought his son - Tūtānekai Smith-Coffey - into the House of Representatives, on his first day back at work since taking paternity leave.

Seen dressed formally in a suit and tie, Trevor was seen cradling the baby, who was wrapped in a green quilt, in one picture while in another, he was seen feeding him while presiding over the ongoing debate in the House.

Videos show Mallard rocking the baby as he listened to the debate.

Patrick Chung indicted for felony cocaine possession
Because Chung's middle name is Christopher and does have a place in Meredith, New Hampshire, the dots were easily connected. Chung faces as much as seven years in prison if convicted of the Class B Felony, according to the Laconia Daily Sun .

In response to the post, which has been shared 1,500 times, New Zealand is being hailed for its liberal approach to parenting and work.

Mallard is never any stranger to retaining miniature ones - he has also cradled Hiwa-i-te-rangi, the miniature one among one other Labor Parliament member Kiri Allan and her accomplice, in Parliament, primarily based fully on Newshub.

"Lovely to have a baby in the House, and what a attractive one", Gareth Hughes tweeted. In fact, it was Mallard who pushed and relaxed rules to make the parliament more child-friendly in 2017.

"You are not welcome with your baby in the Parliament's chamber", the Speaker said, kicking out the legislator.

Last year, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made history becoming the first world leader in almost 30 years to have a child while in office.

More than two weeks ago, Zulekha Hassan, a Kenyan lawmaker, was asked to leave the floor of the national assembly for coming with her baby.
