Russian Federation sends robot into space to test out new booster rocket

Russian humanoid robot blasts off to Space Station aboard Soyuz-2.1 rocket

The android robot Fedor, which is travelling to the orbital outpost aboard the Soyuz MS-14 spacecraft, has been developed by Android Technology Company and the Advanced Research Fund on a technical assignment from Russia's Emergencies Ministry.

Russia's Roscosmos space agency has sent a life-size humanoid robot on a mission to the International Space Station.

The FEDOR robot, the abbreviated name for the Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research anthropomorphic mechanism, blasted off to the Earth orbit aboard a Soyuz spacecraft on August 22 from the Baikonur launch site in Kazakhstan. Sign-up now and enjoy one (1) week free access!

Fedor echoed the words of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, during the launch on Thursday.

Fedor has Instagram and Twitter accounts, with posts saying it is learning new skills such as opening a bottle of water. Within the station, it's going to trial these handbook abilities in very low gravity.

A tweet on Fedor's Twitter account said that the initial tests went "in accordance with the flight mission".

Russian Federation space agency Roscosmos is about to send a humanoid robot to the International Space Station.

It is hoped that FEDOR will eventually carry out such tasks such as spacewalks in the future.

Former Ghana, MLS forward Agogo dies at 40
Federation Internationale de Football Association said its thoughts are with the forward's friends and family. The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana told Agogo that he'd always be in the hearts of Ghanaians.

It is expected future robotic iterations will eventually carry out unsafe operations such as space walks, Mr Bloshenko explained.

The robot will on the ISS perform tasks supervised by Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Skvortsov, who joined the orbiting space station last month.

Roscosmos director-general Dmitry Rogozin earlier this month showed photographs of the robot to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying it would be "an assistant to the crew".

Fedor is not the first robot to go into space.

Russian media speculated that Fedor-like robots will be used in Russia's Moon programme.

U.S. space agency NASA launched Robonaut 2, a humanoid robot developed with General Motors and a similar aim of working in high-risk environments in 2011.

Japan also sent a 34-centimeter (13.4 inches) tall robot called Kirobo along with the station's first Japanese commander. Developed with Toyota, it was capable of maintain conversations - albeit exclusively in Japanese.
