This Smiling ‘White Nationalist’ Allegedly Threatened to Shoot Up Jewish Community Center

James Reardon 20 was arrested and charged Saturday after police were alerted to a threatening Instagram post he made toward a Youngstown Jewish community center

According to Andy Lipkin, the executive vice-president of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, the post was accompanied by a caption that read, "Police identified the Youngstown Jewish Family Community shooter as local white nationalist Seamus O'Rearedon".

Eleven people were killed and seven injured in the October 27, 2018, shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, in what was worst attack against Jewish people in the modern history of the United States.

James Reardon Jr, 20, posted a video of a man shooting a semi-automatic weapon where screams and sirens can be heard in the background.

He is in Mahoning County Jail on telecommunication harassment and aggravated menacing charges, the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office website shows.

New Middleton Police Chief Vince D'Egidio told WYTV that police became aware of Reardon on July 11 after he posted the video on Instagram.

That name was a pseudonym Reardon used online, New Middletown police said. A search of his residence turned up numerous assault weapons, a gas mask and other items that were seized, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator's broadcast partner. The man whom authorities arrested today appears to have attended the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, where he announced to the world that he was a white nationalist who wanted, 'a homeland for white people.' Just as we have in every moment since that Charlottesville rally, we will remain galvanized and energized in stopping white supremacists from spreading hate. On Aug. 3, a 21-year-old white supremacist murdered 22 people in an El Paso, Texas, Walmart, sparking concerns that USA law enforcement does not take white supremacist threats as seriously as worldwide or Islamic terroristic threats.

His bail was set at $250,000, with a court hearing planned for Monday.

It was not immediately clear whether the FBI and federal prosecutors would pursue additional charges against Reardon.

Andrew Lipkin, from the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, said there was still unease in the community even though there was no longer an active threat against them. "The system worked", it said in a statement.

"I want to stress that we know of no other threat to the Jewish Community or to any of our agencies at this point it time", he said in a statement posted on the organization's website.

He added, "The positive result here is a clear example of the importance of monitoring social media to identify credible, hate-fueled threats before they are acted on".
