'Operation Yellowhammer': Leaked UK document warns of no-deal Brexit chaos

Jeremy Corbyn and John Bercow vow to prevent ‘damaging’ no-deal
   by Metro Reporter

The Prime Minister will travel to Berlin to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday, and meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Thursday, the BBC reported.

Those are just a few of the impacts predicted by "Operation Yellowhammer", which the London-based paper says was compiled this month by Britain's Cabinet Office and available to those with security clearances on a "need to know" basis. At the moment, negotiations are at a standstill.

She added: "The consequences of a no-deal Brexit will result in a hard border which threatens our hard won peace and undermines the political and economic progress of the past 21 years enjoyed across the whole island".

Labour main opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn wants to call a vote of no confidence in Mr Johnson's government after Parliament returns.

So far, Europe has refused to start new Brexit talks with Johnson, saying that they had already agreed to a deal with his predecessor Theresa May.

Fuel tariffs which the government has chose to set at 0% if there is a no-deal Brexit, could lead to the closure of two United Kingdom oil refineries, costing 2,000 jobs and fuel shortages for the public. But the Yellowhammer findings anticipate that measures to avoid a hard border will probably "prove unsustainable".

Irish deputy prime minister Simon Coveney said, in a tweet, that Ireland had "always been clear" a hard border in Ireland "must be avoided".

Some 48 per cent said they would rather Britain left the European Union without a Brexit deal, with Mr Corbyn remaining in opposition.

"Given the make-up of the North's economy, structured around the SME and agri-food sector, and the very tight supply chains linking North-South and East-West, the effects of a no-deal Brexit would be severe and damaging".

The Government have declined to bring forward the stalled Bill to end free movement under a slower schedule, fearing a massive dispute within the House of Commons. Operation Yellowhammer was first reported on months ago, with media outlets openly referring to it as a "worst-case scenario" plan.

"We have dealt with all issues relating to the flow of goods, foodstuffs, waste, medicines and the flow of people and vehicles across the frontier", Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said in a Gibraltar government statement.

"If parliament was to force the government to pass an extension, it can easily change the date again", said Maddy Thimont-Jack, a senior researcher at Institute for Government.

While speaking to reporters on Sunday, Michael Gove, a conservative politician and the Cabinet Office Minister who is in charge of no-deal Brexit planning, said that some concerns about a possible no-deal Brexit had been exaggerated, per Reuters.
