Subway to test Beyond Meatball sandwich in Canada, US next month

Subway’s Beyond Meatball Marinara can be made vegan

Shares of Beyond Meat, which sells its plant-based burgers and sausages at restaurants and in supermarkets, rose 4% in premarket trading.

Created to be an alternative to the Subway-favorite meatball sub, the Beyond Meatball Marinara sandwich features the first-ever Beyond Meatballs covered in marinara sauce and sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese, all placed in between lightly toasted bread.

Subway restaurants in Australia and New Zealand launched falafel in July 2018 in response to consumer demand for more vegan options.

The craze of plant-based alternatives is alive and well as Subway announced Wednesday that it too will be joining the growing trend with its new Beyond Meatball Marinara sub.

Starting in September, 685 Subway restaurants in the US and Canada will serve the Beyond Meatball Marinara sub.

The company said in its release that the sandwich is "packed with protein" at 24 grams per six-inch sub.

"Subway appeals to so many fans because we truly offer something for everyone". With our new plant-based Beyond Meatball™ Marinara sub, we are giving them the best of both worlds.

The Beyond Meatball was developed specifically for Subway and can not be found anywhere else. The new Subway Canada Beyond Meat sandwich was just unveiled and it's changing the sub world forever.

Dunkin' (formerly Dunkin' Donuts) recently introduced a Beyond Meat Sausage Breakfast Sandwich at participating restaurants in Manhattan.
