Trump nominates Eugene Scalia to lead Department of Labor

President Trump says he will nominate lawyer Eugene Scalia to be his new Labor secretary.

While announcing the development, he, in a tweet, said, "I am pleased to announce that it is my intention to nominate Gene Scalia as the new secretary of labour".

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., argued that by nominating Scalia, Trump was "missing an opportunity to nominate a fighter for workers, like a union member, to be America's next Labor Secretary".

A former top lawyer for the Labor Department in the George W. Bush administration, Scalia is a partner in the Washington office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

In the early 1990s, Scalia served as a special assistant to Attorney General William Barr during Barr's first stint leading the Justice Department.

Notably, Wal-Mart hired Scalia in 2005 to defend it against lawsuits from former employees, who said they were fired for calling out wrongdoing within the company. The financier was indicted earlier this month on charges of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14, in NY in Florida. Epstein was arrested in NY on new federal sex-trafficking charges on July 6. He has also worked for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Tom Cruise soars the skies yet again in Top Gun 2 trailer
To be directed by Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski , Top Gun: Maverick will soar to the silver screen on June 26th, 2020. We didn't get much other information other than that, but that doesn't mean we're not still buzzing.

The announcement came after Scalia was spotted at the White House on Thursday.

That's right, the late Justice Antonin Scalia's son is getting the nomination.

Scalia eventually assumed the solicitor's position after President Bush gave him a recess appointment in 2001. Much of Scalia's legal work has been aimed at stopping the Dodd-Frank financial regulations enacted after the 2008 financial collapse.

He attended law school at the University of Chicago, and received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

If confirmed, Scalia will replace Alexander Acosta, who was distrusted by anti-labor conservatives during his 2 1/2 years in the job.
