Spurs sign Canadian Lyles

Boston Celtics forward Marcus Morris goes to the basket past New York Knicks forward Noah Vonleh during the second half of an NBA basketball game Saturday Oct. 20 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York

San Antonio had an opening for the 23-year-old after forward Marcus Morris backed out on a commitment to join the Spurs on a two-year, $20 million contact.

Lyles averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game for the Nuggets last season.

NY suddenly had more money because they themselves re-worked a deal with Reggie Bullock. "This is no knock on the Spurs. I have respect for them", Morris said.

They had to conduct some salary cap gymnastics to get that deal done by reworking DeMarre Carroll's contract to a three-year, $21 million pact and sending Davis Bertans to Washington as part of a three-team sign-and-trade.

The move certainly makes sense for Morris, who now will earn more in the 2019-20 campaign than what he would have had he signed the aforementioned San Antonio offer.

Conservative leadership: Hunt 'expects' Brexit by Christmas
The victor will be chosen by members of the Conservative Party. "They think it is in the national interest that we have an ambassador in place", a source told The Times .

It turns out that Morris based on his decision according to what he deemed was best for him and his family. But sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes earlier this week that he was considering reneging on the deal for a $15 million deal with the Knicks.

After pulling the offer from Morris, the Spurs reportedly signed former Denver Nuggets forward Trey Lyles.

Marcus Morris #13 of the Boston Celtics shoots the ball against the Charlotte Hornets on November 19, 2018 at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

However, most players improve on that end of the floor in Gregg Popovich's system and Lyles is likely to do the same after arriving in San Antonio.

Morris, 29, averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season while shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point distance. A rare scenario that a veteran National Basketball Association player would turn down Greg Popovich and his many accolades to join a team that only managed to win 17 games last season.
