NY power outage knocks out subways, businesses, elevators

Times Square Power Out

"We're getting reports of power outages in station complexes throughout Manhattan", said MTA.info.

The outage, according to the New York City Fire Department, spanned from Fifth Avenue to the Hudson River, and from streets in the 40s to 72nd Street.

"While Con Edison works to restore power in Manhattan, we encourage everyone to avoid below-ground subway stations".

On social media, dozens of users posted photos of subway stations bathed in darkness. Con Edison says it hopes have power fully restored by midnight.

Dwight Gooden arrested, charged with cocaine possession, report says
Police pulled him over on June 7 for erratic driving and having tinted windows that were too dark, the New York Post reports. Gooden is now 54-years-old, and he was first sent to a rehabilitation facility in 1987 for cocaine possession.

"Members are responding to reports of numerous stuck elevators that are occupied", the tweet said. Some buildings in Rockefeller Plaza have lights on, others were dark.

The cut affected the western chunk of Manhattan, particularly the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the Broadway theater district. "We're working to identify causes and keep trains moving". She had planned to take the A train home when the power outage occurred. "I was wondering what was going on". "I am so sorry that this happened", she said. The Shops at Columbus Circle was evacuated shortly after. Two young women posed for a selfie in the middle of 46th Street before an officer rushed over and chastised them, saying, "Ladies, this is not the time".

NY has endured large-scale blackouts before, most recently following Superstorm Sandy in 2012 as well as the widespread 2003 blackout across the U.S. Northeast that left most of the city without power for a day.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was in Iowa campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination when the outage struck, told CNN said he had spoken with the police commissioner and the deputy commissioner responsible for counterterrorism. That blackout caused an estimated $310 million in damages and was sparked by lightning strikes in Westchester County.
