4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes in Seattle Area

Earthquakes can be caused by many natural phenomena and it's not a surprise one hits us.

That was the popular question Friday morning as residents around Western Washington awoke to news that a 4.6-magnitude quake rattled near Puget Sound and Seattle just before 3 a.m.

The quake was rather inconsiderable but it was felt across the west coastline of Washington State stretching all the way to the Canadian border.

NWS Seattle says a Tsunami is not expected. Nothing like a Tsunami is anticipated, so the residents of Seattle can chill.

This morning's tremor follows a cluster of quakes off Vancouver Island last week and a pair of major earthquakes that shook southern California on Thursday and Friday.

"It's been widely felt throughout the Seattle area", Paul Caruso, a United States Geological Survey geophysicist, told The Seattle Times.

The quake, which was centered two miles northwest of Monroe, was felt south to Olympia, north to Vancouver, British Columbia, and east to Leavenworth. "I felt that natural disaster all the way on Vancouver Island!"
