Pixel Launcher in Android Q Gets Swipe Down to See Notifications Gesture

Google says there's one more beta iteration to go before it releases Android Q to the public, but the fifth beta's features and behaviors are apparently very close to what we'll see in the consumer version.

"The Open Beta provides customers the chance to test, and provide input and suggestions, on experimental features not yet launched to the general public", Google stated in a public announcement. That last point seems awfully optimistic considering Samsung hasn't even managed to release its folding phone yet.

Basically, if you use a third party launcher in beta 5, you can not use gesture navigation. This will, however, require some changes to the way Android now works. In Beta 5, you can swipe in diagonally from the lower left or right corner to access Assistant. As the screenshot below shows, Android Q then greys out the option to select gesture navigation from within Settings, leaving only 2 and 3-button navigation instead.

Manfred: Baseballs not juiced, but decreased drag puzzling
It doesn't need to change very much in order to produce meaningful change in terms of the way the game is played on the field. Houston's ace has allowed a league-high 26 home runs in 2019, but the increased dingers haven't hurt his effectiveness.

Although the beta 5 introduces new features to the gesture navigation, when a Redditor tried to use a third party launcher in the beta 5 build, he got a notification that said "System navigation updated". Features like the multitasking menu are part of the home screen, so they don't work properly with replacements like Nova or Action Launcher.

While it mentions that it will be continuing to work on these issues, with beta 6 users with a custom launcher installed will be switched back to three-button navigation by default until it can work out the problems in a post-launch update.

Android Q Beta runs on all Pixel phones, as well as some third-party devices.
