Manfred: Baseballs not juiced, but decreased drag puzzling

Justin Verlander '100%' believes MLB is juicing balls for more home runs

"Baseball has done nothing, given no direction, for an adjustment of the baseball", Manfred told reporters, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

That total would smash baseball's existing record of 6,105 home runs during the 2017 season. "If you sat in owners meeting and listen to people on how the game is played, that is not a sentiment of owners for whom I work", Manfred said. They own the f-king company. "I believe that the ball has suddenly changed and I don't know why". Since 2014, home runs have increased by almost 60 percent.

ESPN reports that Manfred and the league had a study done and found that balls were performing differently, but it didn't give a reason for why they were.

Verlander lambasted the Major League Baseball on Monday for its sharp increase in home runs in 2019.

Vladimir Guererro Jr. put on a show in Cleveland on Monday during the Home Run Derby, breaking Josh Hamilton's previously held record of 28 dingers in a single round not once, but twice, and hitting an absurd total of 91 homers over three rounds.

Manfred acknowledged a difference in the balls, but denied any league involvement.

With three defeats in their nine matches, the Black Caps could only garner 11 points in an equal number of matches. However, the Kiwis had beaten India in the warm-up match prior to the tournament.

"Baseball has done nothing, given no direction for an adjustment in the baseball", Manfred told reporters in Cleveland.

Houston's ace has allowed a league-high 26 home runs in 2019, but the increased dingers haven't hurt his effectiveness. It's also totally reasonable to think Major League Baseball - be it Selig or Manfred, his successor-in-waiting - pressured Cleveland to ditch Chief Wahoo.

Manfred however is adamant there is "no desire among ownership to increase homers".

With the rates of home runs and offensive production increasing in the Major League Baseball year-by-year, Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander recently opened up to ESPN's Jeff Passan about why he believes this is happening. "To the contrary, they're concerned about how many we have".

"It is a real priority for us going forward". "How you manipulate a human-dominated handmade manufacturing process in any consistent way, it's a smarter human being than I". It doesn't need to change very much in order to produce meaningful change in terms of the way the game is played on the field.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Marcus Stroman said he endorsed most of Verlander's take, but unlike Verlander - who said he walks a "tightrope" no matter who is at the plate - claims he doesn't waste time worrying about it.
