Target cash registers appear to be down nationally

"Our teams are troubleshooting now and we apologize for the inconvenience", the company wrote.

Cash registers were down Saturday at Target stores nationwide, leaving shoppers in a lurch after they had filled their carts with necessities and other would-be purchases.

- A tech issue that left Target shoppers stuck in line Saturday afternoon has been fixed, corporate officials announced.

"This is how you bring America to a standstill", tweeted Nancy Yang, a digital producer with Minnesota Public Radio.

The hashtag #targetdown was trending on Twitter, as users of the social network expressed sympathy for Target's in-store workers. "Every single register at the Richfield Target is down".
