Radiohead release music to raise money for Extinction Rebellion

Radiohead hack

Radiohead is releasing a haul of unheard music in aid of Extinction Rebellion after the band was hacked and asked to pay a ransom.

In a show of what campaigners called "unprecedented support" for the global climate action movement, British rock band Radiohead turned a ransom demand by hackers into an opportunity to support the growing Extinction Rebellion movement.

"We got hacked last week-someone stole Thom's minidisc archive from around the time of OK Computer, and reportedly demanded $150,000 on threat of releasing it", guitarist Jonny Greenwood said in a statement.

Greenwood said it was never intended for release and was "only tangentially interesting". We haven't yet been able to listen to all 18 hours just yet, but it looks as if MINIDISCS [HACKED] will offer a fascinating insight into how Radiohead crafted one of the greatest albums of all time. And very, very long. They're on sale for £18 ($22.86) for the next 18 days, but the band warned that, with the total size reaching 1.8GB, fans should be prepared to deal with a large download. Not a phone download.

Almost 100 killed, 19 missing in central Mali village massacre
A security source at the massacre site in the village of Sobane-Kou told AFP that "a Dogon village has been virtually wiped out". The victims have included women and young children, and observers say hundreds of civilians were killed previous year alone.

Other famous supporters of Extinction Rebellion include Dame Emma Thompson, former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, authors Philip Pullman and Margaret Atwood and political writer Noam Chomsky.

Last week, 18 hours of Radiohead's OK Computer sessions leaked online, including versions of songs that didn't come out until much later like "Lift", "Nude", and "True Love Waits", as well as unfinished rare songs, demos, alternate takes, live recordings, and more.

A note from Yorke on the Bandcamp page says: 'We've been hacked.
