False Report of Shooting Causes Stampede at D.C. Pride Parade

Washington DC Pride active shooter fears

An Indian-American was arrested in the U.S. for threatening a person with a BB gun and causing a stampede during an LGBTQ pride parade here, leaving several people injured as hundreds of participants fled in panic fearing a mass shooter.

Several people were injured after a panic at the LGBTQ+ pride parade sent people running through the streets of the nation's capital, according to District of Columbia Deputy Mayor Kevin Donahue.

Although no shots were fired, hundreds of people ran from the area, knocking down metal police barricades and running into stores, fearing a gunman had opened fire on the revellers. Other people were treated at the scene, in Washington's Dupont Circle. Seven people were taken to hospitals for injuries they suffered while fleeing, authorities said.

However, officials maintain there is no evidence that shots were fired.

According to the arrest report, the officer was flagged down by a person who pointed out the suspect, saying he had a gun. A man pulled out a B.B. gun on someone else, cops said in a WTOP report. There are injuries from people running from what they thought were gunshots. "Everything fell and everyone said 'run!'" she said.
