Eagles lock up franchise QB Wentz with extension

Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz has agreed to a four-year extension to remain with the Eagles through the 2024 season, the team announced Thursday night.

However, With Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger signing for $35 million this offseason with their current teams, this mark set by the new Wentz deal should make Buccaneers' fans smile. The pact will include $107.9 million in guaranteed money, according to multiple reports. Combined with the final two years of his rookie deal - including $4.1 million in 2019 and $22.8 million in 2020 - Wentz's contract is worth $154 million, with a max value of $170 million, over six years. "From the moment I got drafted here, I knew this place was special". I can't even explain to you how excited I am right now to be a part of this great city for this many more years.

The second overall pick in the 2016 National Football League draft, out of North Dakota State, Wentz has been dynamic when on the field, but his short National Football League career has been marred by injuries. The star quarterback suffered a torn ACL in December 2017 and missed the Eagles' last three regular-season games and entire playoff run to a Super Bowl title.

Wentz got hurt again a year ago, missing the last three games with a back injury and again Foles led the Eagles to the playoffs and a postseason win. Wentz struggled last season in his return from the injury and was also shut down early due to a back injury.

Comparing his contract to quarterbacks around the league, Wentz' extension is worth $32 million per season, making him the fourth-highest paid quarterback in the league.
