"Nokia 2.2 unveiled with 5.7" display and removable battery, starts at €99

Nokia 2.2 launched in India at Rs 6,999 claims to be the cheapest Android One phone

The Nokia 2.2 is assured of at least three years of software updates meaning it will see Android Q and the version after that at the very minimum.

For 99 euros (~$112), you're getting a phone with a quad-core MediaTek A22 chipset, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage, and a 5.71-inch HD+ LCD screen with waterdrop notch. "I'm happy to share that Nokia 2.2 is being announced in India first than globally, and we're not stopping at that", Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global, told reporters here.

As one can notice in the image above, HMD has tried its best to make Nokia 2.2 a worthy entry-level victor smartphone. Stick around for our full review that'll be coming soon. For expanding its storage, users can add a microSD card to the device. The battery has decent a 3,000 mAh capacity, but charges over microUSB. As noted, the Nokia 2.2 also comes with a dedicated hardware button for Google Assistant.

In terms of optics, the Nokia 2.2 sports a 13MP camera on the rear with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP camera on the front for selfies. The price of Nokia 1 covers is around €10, so the covers for Nokia 2.2 could cost a few Euros more.

Huawei signs deal with Russian telecoms firm to develop 5G
It comes as some Western countries, led by the USA , have blocked the Chinese firm on concerns it poses a national security risk. It should provide some much relief to the Chinese tech giant, . which has been under intense global scrutiny in recent months.

The Nokia brand has finally made a strong global comeback after years of absence from the smartphone world thanks to its new licensee - HMD Global.

There are some AI features baked into the camera app, the most interesting of which is the "AI powered low light fusion technology". The Nokia 2.2 succeeds last years Nokia 2.1, which was an Android Go smartphone priced at Rs. 6,499, and is the Finnish company's most affordable Android One device. The power button on this device also doubles up as the notification LED light. It will be up for grabs in Tungsten Black and Steel color options.

The smartphone lacks a fingerprint sensor, but does feature biometric face unlock, which HMD Global claims has been equipped with a feature called "liveliness detection", which is supposed to help prevent the phone being unlocked via photos, and printouts.

The short video, which was published to Nokia Mobile's Indian Twitter account, doesn't specify which smartphone it is.
