Huawei offers to sign a no-spy agreement with governments

Huawei says willing to sign 'no-spy' agreements

The Federal Communications Commission in April 2018 voted to advance a proposal to bar the use of funds from a $9 billion government fund to purchase equipment or services from companies that pose a security threat to US communications networks.

Huawei may be facing an executive order this week that lays the groundwork for U.S. companies being barred from working with the Chinese telecom company.

He said the results of the telecoms supply chain review affecting Huawei's case would be announced soon and all network operators would need to comply by the decision.

Chinese telecom giant Huawei is prepared to sign a "no-spy" agreement with countries including the United Kingdom, the company's chairman said on Tuesday, as the head of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said Britain must ensure the security of its mobile networks.

Washington's broader geopolitical concerns have been heightened by a law enacted by Beijing in 2017 obliging Chinese companies to aid the government on national security issues.

"Huawei and 5G network is extremely important", Mr Stoltenberg told a London business conference.

Effect of body image on mental health to be examined
New data about the impact of body image on young people's mental health will be published by MHF later this week. The charity is now lobbying for peer-led mental health programmes to be introduced in schools.

Huawei Chairman Liang Hua (梁華) said the company had never meant to spy on western consumers.

He said Huawei had long cooperated with Britain's National Cyber Security Centre's oversight of its technology, and it had improved its software engineering capabilities to make them the equal of competitors.

The United States has been actively pushing other countries not to use Huawei's equipment in next-generation 5G networks that it calls "untrustworthy".

However, the German government says it has not now received any offers for a no-spy contract to help win a bid there to build its 5G network. Furthermore, concerns about Chinese law requiring Huawei to cooperate with China's intelligence agencies were simply hype.

Liang, however, said economic factors should be part of the decision, and politics should be taken out of it. Huawei has signed more than 40 5G contracts, he said, 25 in Europe, 10 in the Middle East and six in Asia.
