Donald Trump Jr. Agrees to Senate Committee Interview

Donald Trump Jr., the president's eldest son, has reached a deal to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee next month.

Burr told fellow Republican senators last week that he was forced to issue a subpoena demanding Trump Jr.'s appearance after he skipped two previously scheduled appointments to sit for an interview, the Times reported on Sunday.

Under the agreement, according to the Times, Trump Jr. will speak to the committee for two-four hours in mid-June.

CNN's Manu Raju reported that they agreed to limit his interview to between 2 and 4 hours, and to limit the scope to 5 or 6 topics.

The panel had subpoenaed Trump Jr.to appear before the committee, two congressional sources said last week.

The Senate judiciary committee chairman, the Republican Lindsey Graham of SC, said on "Fox News Sunday" that if he were Trump Jr.'s lawyer, "I would tell him, 'You don't need to go back into this environment any more"'.

The development capped a contentious episode that began when the panel, led by Chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., and Ranking Member Mark Warner, D-Va., subpoenaed the president's son over remarks he made while testifying before the committee in 2017.

The deal comes after the panel subpoenaed Trump Jr to discuss answers he gave the panel's staff in a 2017 interview.

Stock sell-off hits Asia as China strikes back
Trump said Monday that he expected some measure of retaliation but insisted that the U.S.is ready to withstand China's move. Makers of clothing and furniture were already shifting production to Southeast Asia due to rising Chinese wages.

He argued that nothing Mr. Trump tells the Senate will "change the outcome of the Mueller report". Cohen pleaded guilty in November to lying to Congress and after the February testimony, Republican lawmakers said he should be referred for further prosecution for lying to them seven more times.

A committee spokesperson declined to comment.

The committee's demand to have Trump Jr. testify reportedly is related to the earlier testimony of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, seen here.

Trump himself weighed in earlier Tuesday as he departed the White House for Louisiana, saying that it was "very unfair" how his eldest child was being treated.

"If I were Donald Trump Jr.'s lawyer, I would tell him, you don't need to go back into this environment anymore", Graham said.

In his report, Mueller explained that he and his team considered charging Trump Jr. and others with campaign-finance violations for agreeing to meet with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya based on their understanding that she could provide damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

In the Republican-controlled Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has declared "case closed" on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. "He's indicated publicly that he believes they will find no collusion, and we are hoping that we'll get a report on that stuff here".
