Myanmar pilot safely lands plane on its nose after landing gear failure

WATCH Myanmar Passenger Plane Make Safe Belly Landing Despite Nose Wheel Failure

A Myanmar-based pilot will go down as one of the real heroes in modern era after he somehow managed to make an emergency landing with a plane which lacked its front wheels.

Miraculous: The Embraer 190 which was landed safely without front landing gear.

All 82 passengers and seven crew members aboard Flight UB103 from Yangon were declared safe after the dramatic landing on Sunday in Myanmar's second-biggest city.

The state-run carrier said the plane had departed from Yangon near the Myanmar coast and was approaching the airport in Mandalay when the pilot was unable to deploy the landing gear.

The crew then performed an emergency evacuation.

The captain then followed emergency procedures to dump fuel to reduce the landing weight, and made a safe landing at 9:09am, the statement said.

'So they had to land with the back wheels.

After the incident, a video, showing graceful landing of the aircraft before the nose of the jet tipped over and ground to a halt, went viral.

Dr Win Mya said the pilot instructed them to follow the air hostesses' instructions and to use emergency exits once the plane landed.

Myanmar National Airlines have since sent engineers to the airport to check on the aircraft to establish the cause of the fault.

"Myanmar National Airlines would like to express our deepest appreciation to all the passengers onboard and our crews", the airline said in the statement.

The incident comes days after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane crash-landed and slid off a runway while landing in Yangon airport during a storm last Wednesday, leaving 11 passengers injured.

A military plane crashed into the Andaman sea in 2017 with 122 people on board - one of the deadliest aviation accidents in the country's history - which authorities attributed to bad weather.
