Dyson files new patents for the design of its new EV

The patents filed about 18 months ago and made public on May 8 are the first glimpse of the car being built by the UK-based company known for pricey vacuums hair dryers and air purifiers

Sir James has called on his staff to keep secret the key details, and a number of patents "don't reveal what the vehicle will really look like or what it will do".

The patent filings are the first clue to what the "radically different" vehicle pledged by British inventor Sir James Dyson might look like.

The company on Wednesday made public several patent drawings filed in 2017 that show what appears to be a long, sleek crossover SUV with three rows of seats. The aim is the vehicle is suitable for both "city and rough terrain".

The 2bn auto project is expected to be the first in a planned range of Dyson electric vehicles designed use solid state batteries rather than the current industry standard liquid lithium-ion cells.

Sir James, the billionaire inventor whose fortune was built on revolutionising the traditional vacuum cleaner design, has so far indicated that it would be a premium vehicle, implying a price tag in the range of a Tesla, which costs £38,000 for a Model 3 or around £70,000 for a Model S. The designs underscore that the new auto will also need bespoke parts such as tyres.

Two French soldiers killed in rescue of four hostages in Burkina Faso
Their local guide was found dead. "We were not aware of their presence. the American will be repatriated separately", Parly said. At least two of the hostages were captured in neighboring Benin .

They also feature "a reclined seating position" for the driver, "which would enable a low cabin height and a shallow windscreen angle", Dyson said.

According to Bloomberg, in an email to staff CEO James Dyson asked employees to not share any details about the vehicle, but testing would ramp up next month with more than 500 people working on the project.

In a letter to staff, the entrepreneur said the vehicle the will contain "fundamentally new technologies and make some inventive leaps".

Dyson is joining a growing list of established auto companies and tech manufacturers working on electric vehicles including Google-parent company Alphabet's Waymo self-driving unit.
