After 11 years, Woods found himself atop the leaderboard in a major, winning the 2019 Masters in Augusta, Ga.by one stroke. Woods' win on Sunday was his 15th major victory, three short of the standard set by Nicklaus.

A who's who of sporting royalty were quick to hail Woods' sixth victory at the iconic Augusta course.

Nicklaus also spoke to the Golf Channel on Sunday, comparing the 43-year-old Woods' victory to his own as a 46-year-old in 1986, and making clear he doesn't think his record is safe.

Brooks Koepka relinquished his share of the Masters lead on Saturday but the American is not about to panic given the increased self-belief that helped him bag two of the last three majors. "And, you know, the next two majors are at Bethpage, where he's won [2002 U.S. Open], and Pebble Beach, where he's won [2000 U.S. Open]".

The Masters, which has not had a Monday conclusion since 1983, made a decision to cancel its green jacket ceremony at the 18th green in order to hurry spectators to the exits faster.

"It was probably a 9-iron yardage but I didn't want the wind to gust and to get the ball too much and I just didn't hit it hard enough", Molinari explained.

All eyes were on overnight leader Francesco Molinari, who led by two shots, Woods and the weather when play began on Sunday as the race for the Green Jacket turned into a final sprint with the forecast predicting rain and thunderstorms.

Paired together in the final round of last year's British Open, won by the Italian at Carnoustie, Molinari and Woods found themselves in the last group again battling for a major title.

Molinari was far from the only contender to meet their demise at the 12th.
