Damaging winds are expected to be the primary threat, but a few tornadoes are also possible.

A rapidly moving cold front moving through the area will bring potentially severe weather to the NY metro region today. Capt. Alton Lenderman said the parents, who were in the front seats, were not injured.

In Louisiana, Deputy Glenn Springfield of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department said Sunday that two people died in floodwaters Saturday.

As the storm moved east, one person was killed by a tornado in the northern MS, according to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley. The children, ages 3 and 8, were killed when a tree fell on a vehicle Saturday.

In Hamilton, Mississippi, 72-year-old Robert Scott said he had been sleeping in his recliner late Saturday when he was awakened and found himself in his yard after a tornado ripped most of his home off its foundation.

He says 13-year-old Sebastian Omar Martinez died during flash flooding in the community of Bawcomville, near Monroe.

The weekend's storm brought tornadoes that killed at least five people, including three children, in the U.S. South, officials said.

The same system caused damage in Columbus, Mississippi.

In Texas, authorities said a woman died on Saturday night when a tornado destroyed her mobile home, CNN reported.

Steady winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected to gust as high as 40 to 50 miles per hour, the weather service said.

Two children, siblings aged 3 and 8, were killed on Saturday when a tree fell on the vehicle in which they were sitting in Pollok, Texas, said a spokeswoman for the Angelina County Sheriff's Department.

The tornado threat will be lower by then, but damaging winds could still present hazardous conditions.

A tornado watch has been issued for the Lehigh Valley and all of New Jersey through 7 a.m. Monday as a line of strong storms sweeps through from the west.
