Blake Griffin Likely To Miss First Round

NBCA names Mike Budenholzer Coach of the Year

Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin will likely miss the entire first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks because of a left knee injury, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Still, this result wasn't just about the Pistons' comparatively lesser talent, or a truly terrible performance from them to open the series, but the startlingly ruthless efficiency the Bucks showed in tearing them apart.

Without Griffin, the Pistons were no match for the top-seeded Bucks in Game 1 on Sunday night, losing 121-86 at Fiserv Forum.

Griffin originally missed three games with a sprained knee prior to returning on April 5. The good news for Griffin and the Pistons is that there is no structural damage in the knee, though it's not known at this time if any sort of surgery will be needed over the offseason. Griffin and team doctors will decide the best course of action when the season concludes.

Pistons coach Dwane Casey said Griffin, who has had multiple knee surgeries in his career, was "too sore to play". The others were Brooklyn's Kenny Atkinson, Denver's Michael Malone, Indiana's Nate McMillan, San Antonio's Gregg Popovich, the Los Angeles Clippers' Doc Rivers, Utah's Quin Snyder and Portland's Terry Stotts.

Milwaukee jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first 4:19 of the game and led 70-43 at halftime, shooting 53.3 percent from the field (24 of 45), making eight shots from 3-point range and outrebounding the Pistons in the first half, 32-22.
