SC Sets Aside Life Ban on Sreesanth, Asks BCCI to Reconsider Punishment

Vinod Rai welcomes SC order on mandatory cooling off period

The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the BCCI disciplinary committee's order of 2013 imposing a life ban on cricketer S Sreesanth.

The Supreme Court has also ordered the BCCI to reconsider their decision of life ban on Sreesanth in a period of three months.

Sreesanth was banned from all forms of cricket by the BCCI. I don't think even if the ban is lifted he can play first-class cricket.

Sreesanth's lawyer Salman Khurshid, a former Indian minister of external affairs, plead his case in the latest instance, and said that the BCCI had not followed the laws of natural justice while determining the sanction, and pointed out that a life ban was "excessive and maximum".

Speaking to PTI after a favourable verdict by the apex court on Friday, a relieved Sreesanth said: "I don't know what life has in store for me after all these years". I have been keeping myself fit and practising regularly. "I am sure the BCCI will be kind to me and the decision will be in my favour", he said.

Maurizio Sarri gives positive Gonzalo Higuain injury update
The remaining tie pits Benfica against Eintracht Frankfurt , with the victor facing Chelsea or Slavia Prague in the semi-finals. Portugal takes on Germany as Benfica are drawn with Eintracht Frankfurt for the third quarter-final.

July 2015: Two days after the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha Committee issued a two-year ban on IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, a Delhi court exonerates Sreesanth and 35 others-including Chavan and Chandila-in the spot-fixing case.

The bench made it clear that Sreesanth will get the opportunity of being heard by the committee on the quantum of the punishment.

The former fast-bowler had been banned for his involvement in spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League 2013. On September 13, 2013, BCCI was found Sreesanth guilty on all the three counts - corruption, betting and bringing disrepute to the game - and imposed the lifetime ban on him. The two-judge division bench had ruled that the BCCI ban could not be overturned or reduced. The issue of Sreesanth's ban might be discussed on the sidelines of the meeting as well.

"This is a Supreme Court order and obviously a call needs to be taken". It is nearly six years I am out of cricket.
