A flood warning for northern and parts of central Iowa has been extended through Saturday evening as "local creeks and streams, as well as the main river branches are running high", according to the weather service.

As of now, several area rivers are expected to be into minor to moderate flood stage by Friday and Saturday. A flood warning was in effect for the Rock River in Como, where the river had reached 15 feet Friday, 2 1/2 feet above flood stage. It was expected to crest at 17.6 feet today before receding. When added to periods of rain with amounts up to an inch, flooding is likely into late week, especially along the Turkey River and, to a lesser extent, the Upper Iowa River.

Should the river rise to 900 feet above sea level, NPPD said plant workers will "barricade internal doorways as another layer of protection for facility equipment".

The flood warning continues for the North Raccoon River near Perry or from the Greene-Dallas County line to Adel.

The Omaha-Valley Weather Service office said a levee was breached in Nebraska's Dodge County. Potential for ice jams is possible in low lying areas typically prone to flooding.

The flooding prompted evacuations of hundreds of people in Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota, washed out roads and left farmers concerned for their livestock. Flood stage is 9.0 feet. Heavy rains and melting snowpack caused unprecedented water levels.

The midweek storm crippled parts of Colorado and Wyoming with blizzard conditions.

The storm also spawned at least three tornadoes in MI and in on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service river gauge upstream from Cooper Nuclear Station was swept away, so measurements from the plant were being shared with the NWS, Becker told Newsweek. SEMA also supplied St. Joseph with a sandbagging machine.

Owne also advised residents to monitor river levels through the weekend on the River Gauge website.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads".
